Social Spheres
Social Spheres
Social Spheres is an interactive installation that reacts to conversation in the piece’s surrounding environment and converses within the piece itself. Each of the three Social Spheres interact with one another, sending sound and then displaying light to part-take in conversation, reflecting the communications between personalities often seen in most social circles.
The installation needed to react to the environment and also the audience. Social Spheres did this by listening to the ambient noise levels of the room and playing a sound based on the levels present - the louder the room the more noise the installation made, the quieter the room the quieter the piece.
The noise was once Arduino sending a message to another. The Arduinos were then programmed with an individual personality each - a particular probability of responding to the message they receive. One Arduino was passive and would respond 50% of the time and not the other 50%, one was shy and barely responded and the other was confident and did the most communicating.
If they repsonded to one another, a light flashed on that arduino. The lsights were different colours to represent whcih arduino they were talking to. Each Arduino had it’s own tone to play.
