Sky Trumpets - Thinking Hours
My band Sky Trumpets recently released our first single “Thinking Hours”. This song is a laid back, ambient, self-reflective post-rock piece based around a single loop. This piece was written, recorded and produced by me at my studio.
The visuals were created using a modified code from my Optical Sounds project. I re-tuned the audio filters to work with the “Thinking Hours” wav file and ran the visualiser a number of times capturing it using the jit.record object. The resulting .mov file was overlaid onto a video I had made from some B-roll I took of a radio mast I passed during a hike up the Comeragh Mountains.
The goal was to go for a broken VHS Tape effect. I thought the constant looping of the music would fit that theme so I overlaid the jittery, unpredictable visuals over the video and I think the resulting colours and patterns sit well with the music.
I am working on another release for the not too distant future with the band and so will be revisiting the code again, however with a different theme and colour theory. I’m unsure yet as to what the theme or colour palette will be.
